Plan to upgrade 200 schools, colleges under PMERP

ISLAMABAD: State Minister for Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhary on Tuesday said that the government has planned to upgrade Islamabad Model College for Girls F/7-2 into a university and in this regard a comprehensive work has been completed.

 

While addressing Qirat and Naat Competition Ceremony at Islamabad Model College for Girls (IMCG) F/7?2, the state minister said that 200 schools and colleges of the federal capital would be upgraded
within six to eight months in the next phase under Prime Minister Education Reforms Programme (PMERP).

 

He said that in first phase, the structure of the 22 public educational institutions has been completed. Besides structure, new teachers would also be hired according to the need of the institutions, he added.

 

The state minister said that the training programme for teaching staff would be started soon to improve the quality of education. The country is facing numerous difficulties only because of the lack of education but now the government has decided to promote the education sector on priority basis, he added.

 

He said that the past governments did not pay full attention on the education sector adding that the incumbent government of PML-N is working practically for the promotion of this sector in the country.

 

Tariq Fazal said that in the last phase of the Prime Minister Education Reforms Programme, remaining 200 schools and colleges would be upgraded. He said that besides education, the federal government is also focusing on health sector and all hospitals of the capital would be upgraded in this regard, he added.

 

Meanwhile, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) is going to launch a comprehensive drive for cleanliness and conservation of Margalla Hills National Park in collaboration with civil society, schools and the people associated with the environment to further beautify the natural environment of Margalla Hills in the federal capital.

 

The Margalla Hills National Park enriched with flora and fauna exhibits the green character of the capital city, which makes it unique among the different capitals of the world.

 

While presiding a meeting in this regard, CDA Chairman Maroof Afzal directed the environment wing to make all efforts for conservation of national park and up-gradation of the walking and hiking tracks. He said that thousands of the people from different walks of life daily visits national park area to benefit from the natural environment and healthy recreational facilities in the park. He directed the environment wing to involve people from different segments of the society particularly the serious hikers in this campaign to make Margalla Hills National Park more clean and green. During the campaign, different activities have been planed to raise awareness about protecting natural beauty of federal capital. Moreover, symbolic litter collection by public figures particularly the celebrities will also be carried out in addition to the engagement of students of different educational institutes. The campaign would also include an awareness expedition in the Margalla Hills National Park, which is spread over an area of 31,142 acres. It has around 600 plant species, 250 bird varieties, 38 species of mammals and 13 of reptiles.

 

CDA Chairman Maroof Afzal said that the civic body is taking consolidated steps for the improvement of environment in the federal capital and many initiatives have also been taken to reduce the pollution in the capital city. He further said that the Margalla Hills are beautiful gift of nature and every effort would be made for its protection and preservation. He directed the environment wing of the authority to ensure involvement of people from all walks of life in this campaign so that the desired results could be achieved.
